The Libertines have been announced as the first T in the Park headliner.

Tonight, 29th January, it was confirmed that the band will play the festival.

After playing shows at the Barrowlands last year, it was clear that the four piece are popular amongst the Scottish crowds.

The band have signed a record with Virgin/EMI and front man Pete Doherty confirmed to NME that a new album is to be recorded at Karma Studios in Thailand.

The announcement of the Libertines is certainly interesting. With talk of them headlining Reading and Leeds, does this T in the Park announcement rule that out?

Not necessarily.

2014 saw Arctic Monkeys headline both T in the Park AND Reading and Leeds, hopefully Libertines do the same.

We will find out who the second Reading and Leeds festival headliners are on Monday, we shall see if the Libertines will grace Yorkshire and Berkshire with their presence.
